Faleceu nesta quarta-feira, dia 19/02/2020, vítima de uma broncopneumonia, o cineasta José Mojica Marins. Mais conhecido pelo seu personagem Zé do Caixão, Mojica atuou em mais de 50 filmes e dirigiu 40 produções. Ele foi responsável por grandes clássicos do horror nacional, como À Meia Noite Levarei a Sua Alma (1964), Esta Noite Encarnarei no Teu Cadáver (1967) e O Despertar da Besta (1970).
Nascido em 1936, a paixão de Mojica pelo cinema surgiu ainda quando criança. Seu pai trabalhava em um cinema bairro da Vila Anastácio. O futuro diretor passava seus dias lendo gibis e assistindo filmes. Tinha uma paixão particular pelos faroestes e pelos filmes de horror.
Apesar de ter se consagrado como o Mestre do Horror Nacional, a primeira produção prifissional do diretor, A Sina do Aventureiro (1958), foi um faroeste criticado pelas cenas de nudez. Após essa empreitada no Bang Bang, Mojica dirigiu Meu Destino em Tuas Mãos (1963), um filme mais familiar – e musical.
Seu primeiro filme de horror foi À Meia Noite Levarei a Sua Alma (1964), que começou uma trilogia seguida por Esta Noite Encarnarei no Teu Cadáver (1967) e A Encarnação do Demônio (2008). Nesse meio tempo, Mojica realizou um grande número de produções que variavam entre o horror, o faroeste, a pornochanchada e o pornô. Uma história mais detalhada dessa produções, foi abordada na minissérie Zé do Caixão (2015), com Matheus Nachtergaele no papel de Mojica Marins.
Além dos filmes, ainda apresentou O Estranho Mundo de Zé do Caixão, que ficou no ar entre 2008 e 2014. O programa ficou muito conhecido, não só pelas entrevistas com celebridades, mas também pelas pragas lançadas pelo apresentador ao final dos episódios.
José Mojica Marins fez muito pelo cinema nacional, em particular pelo cinema de horror. Seu personagem mais famoso ficou grande demais para as telas. Ele não apenas ganhou vida, mas também um espaço no imaginário nacional. É muito difícil que alguém nunca tenha ouvido falar do Zé do Caixão. O diretor mostrou para o mundo inteiro que o Brasil também produz ótimos filmes de horror e, certamente, garantiu seu lugar como um dos melhores diretores brasileiros.
